Help

Short answers. Setting up for the first time? Follow Get started; it takes about five minutes.

Installing

Where do I get the addon?

The easiest way is the CurseForge app: search for Saga and install it, and it keeps it up to date. With WowUp, choose Get Addons → Install from URL and paste https://github.com/saga-addon/saga. One download serves both Retail and Forever.

How do I install it by hand?

Download saga.zip and unzip it into the game's AddOns folder, so you end up with two folders, Saga and SagaCompanion:

  • Retail: World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns
  • Forever: World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns

Then restart the game, or type /reload if it is already running.

How do I know it is running?

In game, /saga says how many characters and sessions Saga Companion has and how many events wait to be uploaded; /saga ledger (or the minimap button) opens your ledger. /sagarec status is the recorder's own report. If the game says it does not know the command, the addons are not loaded: check they are ticked in the AddOns list on the character screen.

Can I stop it recording?

/sagarec export off stops recording at once, and /sagarec export on starts it again. Disabling the addon in the AddOns list works too.

The uploader

Do I need it?

Only for this website. The addons work on their own in game. The uploader is the separate Windows program that sends what the addon recorded to your ledger here.

Windows says “Windows protected your PC”. Is it safe?

It is, and that warning is expected. SagaUploader.exe is not code-signed: signing it meant paying a yearly fee, and that was dropped on cost grounds in October 2026. So Windows has no publisher to name, and SmartScreen warns about a program few people have run yet. Choose More info, then Run anyway. There is no publisher to look for, so do not wait for one to appear.

What you can check is the hash. Every release publishes SagaUploader.exe.sha256 next to the download, and Get-FileHash .\SagaUploader.exe in PowerShell should print the same hash. That tells you the file arrived whole and is the one the release published. It is published beside the file, so that is all it can tell you: it is not proof of who built it.

Download it only from Get started or github.com/saga-addon/saga. It does not update itself: when a newer version is out its menu offers Update to that version, and choosing it opens the download page.

I cannot find it after starting it.

It lives as an icon by the clock. Windows often tucks new icons under the ^ arrow; drag it out onto the taskbar to keep it in sight. Right-click it for Upload now, Open my ledger, Start with Windows, Open the log and Quit. Its first line says what it last did.

Nothing showed up

I played, but my ledger is empty or out of date.

The game writes the addon's file only when you log out, so check, in order:

  • Log out. To the character screen or all the way out; /reload also saves. The uploader then sends what is new, usually within a minute.
  • Is the uploader running and connected? Look for its icon (see above). If its first line says Upload key not accepted, choose Change upload key and connect again.
  • Is it looking in the right folder? It finds a game installed in Program Files by itself and asks for the WTF folder otherwise. The file it reads is WTF\Account\<your account>\SavedVariables\Saga.lua; if that file does not exist, the addon has not run on that game yet.
  • The daily limit. An account can upload 50,000 events a day. Past that, the uploader says Daily upload limit reached and sends the rest the next day (UTC). Nothing is lost: the addon keeps everything until it has been uploaded.
  • Someone else's character. A character already claimed by another account is not added to yours; the uploader tells you once. If it is really yours, tell us (below).

Open the log in the uploader's menu says exactly what it found and sent.

Retail and Forever

What does each game get?

Both: sessions and time played, levels, quests, zones, professions, reputation, mounts, gold, loot, deaths and where they happened, gear and item level, boss kills, the weekly recap, sharing, groups and Discord.

Forever adds its rulesets (Hardcore, self-found and the rest), your levelling pace against other players on the same ruleset, the cohort rankings, the public Forever in numbers page, and the Market, built from auction house scans the addon makes on Forever (Retail's client does not answer them).

Retail adds Mythic+ keys, PvP matches and ratings, Against the best (your gear next to the top players of your spec, from Blizzard's leaderboards), and the in-game Vs Top tab, which the uploader keeps up to date.

Sharing, groups and Discord

How do I share a character?

On the character's page, choose Share this character. You see the card first; nothing is public until you choose Create link. Anyone with the link sees that one card and nothing else, and Stop sharing closes it at once. The This week picture is a download you can post anywhere.

How do groups work?

Make one on Groups and send its invite link to friends or your guild. Each member chooses which of their own characters go on the board, which compares level, item level, keys, ratings, time played and when each was last seen. Nothing else about a character is shown to the group. Up to 50 members.

Can it post to Discord?

Yes. Paste a channel webhook on Settings, and after each upload Saga posts that upload's milestones: round levels, timed keys at or above the level you choose, new rating highs, first boss kills and new mounts. The webhook is kept write-only; even you cannot read it back, only replace or remove it.

On your phone

Can I put Saga on my phone's home screen?

Yes. It opens in its own window, like an app:

  • iPhone: open sagaledger.com in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  • Android: open it in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app (or Add to Home screen).

Sign in once inside it. Your ledger is always fetched fresh and never kept on the phone, so it needs a connection.

Your data

What is recorded, and who sees it?

Your own characters' play, never chat, never other players' names. Only you see your characters unless you share them. The details, with a table of who sees what, are on Privacy.

How do I delete everything?

Sign in, open Settings and use Delete my data. It removes your characters, everything recorded for them, your share links, groups, keys and account, at once. To remove the copy on your computer as well, delete Saga.lua and SagaCompanion.lua from WTF\Account\<your account>\SavedVariables.

Contact

Something is wrong, or I have an idea.

Tell us in the box on Updates (sign in first): a bug, a missing stat, a character claimed by someone else. What is being built next is listed on the same page. Saga is free; if you want to help with what it costs to run, support the project.
